Description

Heavy Metal magazine Issue #1 from 1977 - Corben Moebius Druillet VINTAGE Really nice copy of the first issue of HEAVY METAL magazine from 1977. Interestingly, Heavy Metal magazine is relaunching again soon with new owners and editors after about a year hiatus! This is your chance to own the very first copy printed in the U.S. This copy has lived with me for 25+ years in a bag and backing board, so it has stayed in very nice shape. There are some creases, but this copy would make any collector happy, I'm sure; it sure made me happy. I am possibly even understating the condition, but I would rather error on the side of caution. Be fully aware that this magazine/comic contains drawn nudity. (Please remember this was also originally European.) If that isn't to your taste, then you probably won't like Heavy Metal. The magazine comes from a smoke-free home and has no smells at all. Please look at all photos to get an idea of what you will be bidding on. If you have any questions at all, just let me know. I am sad to part with any of my vintage goodies, but I have pressing bills that I need to pay. I plan on listing more vintage stuff, including old D&D and TTRPG goodies soon. If you win any of my other auctions, as well, I will combine shipping for you. Info copied from Wikipedia: Heavy Metal debuted in the US as a glossy, full-color monthly published by HM Communications, Inc., a subsidiary of Matty Simmons' Twenty First Century Communications, Inc. The cover of the initial April 1977 issue declared itself to be "From the people who bring you the National Lampoon", and the issue primarily featured reprints from Métal hurlant, as well as material from National Lampoon, a colorized portion of Vaughn Bodē's Sunpot (1971), and an excerpt from Terry Brooks' The Sword of Shannara (1977). Since the color pages from Métal hurlant had already been shot in France, the budget to reproduce them in the US version was greatly reduced. On Dec-13-24 at 23:17:20 PST, seller added the following information: One item of note is a mild "misprint" that happened on page 33. I included two photos to show that the corner of the page was apparently cut oddly. It doesn't affect the magazine's contents at all and can even probably be trimmed off, if desired. I left it as it was from when it came off of the presses. On Dec-14-24 at 13:58:14 PST, seller added the following information: One item to add, at the recommendation of a helpful soul giving me advice on what to mention for this auction... there is a subscription card still attached in the center of the magazine. Just additional information to confirm that the magazine is complete and intact.
